Google slap
From Adylitica
Google slap is a phenomena that describes the effect of a low quality score on an ad: a marked increase in minimum CPC.
In 2008, Google implemented new code to more severely punish low quality ads. This took many advertisers by surprise and the new policy was dubbed the Google slap.
How to fix Google slap
Quality score is based on unknown factors and thus it is impossible to say definitively how to recover from a Google slap, however any steps that will change quality score for the better should also improve Google slap symptoms.
- Make sure landing pages load quickly, are high quality and conform to Google's policies.
- Make sure that the ad group as a whole is very specifically targeted to the keyword, from landing page to ad variant.
- Use specific geo-targeting, keywords, and time of day targeting to only show to the most likely customers.
